Florida teen charged in stepsister’s murder on Carnival Cruise ship

A Florida cruise turned tragic with the death of a young woman aboard the Carnival Horizon. The case has led to a 16-year-old facing serious charges, including murder and aggravated sexual abuse. The legal proceedings have captivated public attention as more details emerge about the events on that fateful voyage.

Incident on Nov. 6, 2025

Anna Kepner, an 18-year-old high school cheerleader from Titusville, Florida, tragically passed away from mechanical asphyxia while on a family cruise in international waters. Her death raised immediate concerns and led to an investigation.

Discovery and Investigation

On Nov. 7-8, 2025, Kepner’s body was found hidden under a bed by a housekeeper in the cabin she shared with her stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, and another teenager. The discovery prompted an investigation by authorities, drawing significant media attention.

Developments in Mid-November 2025

The case gained international attention due to a court filing related to a marriage dissolution involving Hudson’s mother. The filing hinted at FBI involvement and suggested a minor might be implicated, fueling public speculation.

Hudson Identified as Suspect

By Nov. 20, 2025, Hudson was named as a suspect according to court documents filed during his parents’ custody battle. Though only referred to as “T.H.” in official documents, it became clear he was under serious scrutiny.

Charges Filed in February 2026

Federal charges of murder and sexual abuse were brought against Hudson on Feb. 2, 2026. Initially charged as a juvenile, the case remained sealed due to his age.

Subsequent Legal Proceedings

Hudson was arrested on Feb. 3, pleading not guilty in a hearing that was closed to the public. By Feb. 6, U.S. Magistrate Judge Edwin Torres allowed him to stay with an uncle under electronic monitoring until trial.

Attorney’s Motion and Indictment

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alejandra L. Lopez filed a motion on Feb. 24 for Hudson to be tried as an adult, with no objection from his legal counsel. A superseding indictment followed on March 10, remaining sealed at that time.

Unsealing of Court Documents

In April 2026, the court files were made public, culminating in the U.S. Department of Justice’s formal announcement on April 13 of the charges against Hudson related to Kepner’s death.
