Lil Nas X Enters Mental Health Program, Faces Dismissal of Charges

Lil Nas X Enters Mental Health Program to Potentially Dismiss Felony Charges

In a recent legal development, Lil Nas X has been granted permission by a Los Angeles judge to participate in a mental health diversion program. This program could lead to the dismissal of charges related to an alleged altercation with police officers in Los Angeles.

During a court session, Judge Alan Schneider informed the “Old Town Road” artist that adhering to the treatment program and abiding by the law for a period of two years could result in the dismissal of his four felony charges. The court recognized that the incident was linked to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, marking a deviation from Lil Nas X’s typical behavior.

The structured program, known as postponement of prosecution probation, mandates that the rapper refrain from possessing firearms or engaging in violent behavior. The allegations stem from an incident in August when the 26-year-old was reportedly seen walking unclothed in LA’s San Fernando Valley and allegedly charging at police officers. Reports indicate that three officers sustained injuries during the confrontation. Visuals captured before police intervention showed him in the street wearing just white briefs and boots.

Facing three felony counts of battery on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer, Lil Nas X entered a plea of not guilty. In a video shared on Instagram shortly after the incident, he expressed that the past few days had been “terrifying” but assured followers of his well-being.

After the court proceedings, he conveyed to Rolling Stone his gratitude, stating he was “thankful. Just very thankful,” and acknowledged that the situation “could have been much worse.”

The District Attorney’s Office has not provided any comments regarding the case.

Hailing from Atlanta, Lil Nas X gained international fame with his 2018 hit “Old Town Road,” a fusion of country and hip-hop that dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for a record 19 weeks and earned him two Grammy Awards. Known for his innovative style, his debut studio album “Montero” reached No. 2 on the Billboard album chart in 2021 and received a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. His other successful tracks include “Industry Baby” and “Montero (Call Me by Your Name).”
