Taylor Frankie Paul Avoids Charges, Faces Protective Order Hearing

Renowned for her role in “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives”, Taylor Frankie Paul finds herself in the news spotlight once again. Recently, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office announced that Paul will not face charges related to altercations with her former partner, Dakota Mortensen.

Investigations conducted by police departments in Draper City and West Jordan have centered around allegations of domestic violence involving Paul and Mortensen, the father of her two-year-old son. However, charges against Paul have been dropped due to insufficient evidence, according to Breanne Miller from the district attorney’s Family Protection Unit. “Several incidents that were submitted do not rise to the level of criminal offenses. The remaining incidents lack sufficient evidence to support filing criminal charges,” Miller stated.

These developments come amidst a backdrop of legal battles, as both Paul and Mortensen have filed protective order petitions against each other. A court hearing is scheduled to address these petitions.

Previously, Paul’s legal troubles emerged from a 2023 incident resulting in her being charged with aggravated assault after a video surfaced showing her attacking Mortensen. This incident led to ABC shelving an entire season of “The Bachelorette” in which Paul was featured. As part of a plea agreement, Paul pleaded guilty to an assault charge, which will be reduced to a misdemeanor if she complies with probation conditions until August.

The couple’s tumultuous relationship has been a focal point of the reality series, with their disputes, including a 2023 confrontation caught on police body cameras, heavily documented. Eric Swinyard, Paul’s lawyer, claimed in recent hearings that Mortensen was the instigator of a February altercation, while Mortensen accused Paul of aggressive behavior during their arguments.

In a disturbing video from May last year, Paul was seen pushing Mortensen while he held their son. Michael McDonald, the attorney for their child, expressed concern over this behavior, stating, “that makes me very nervous about her ability to control herself.”

The ongoing legal proceedings and media attention underscore the volatile nature of Paul and Mortensen’s relationship, a saga that continues to unfold both in the courtroom and the public eye.
