Stabbing Incident at Billings Senior High School: Teacher and Student Injured
In a shocking incident late Tuesday afternoon, a teacher and a student at Billings Senior High School sustained injuries in a stabbing. Authorities confirmed the victims are expected to recover.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m., the high school was placed under lockdown following an attack by a student wielding a knife. The Billings Police Department confirmed that both individuals were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Lt. Samantha Puckett stated on Wednesday that, although the investigation is active, there is no threat to the general public, and all individuals involved in the incident have been identified. She shared this information with the Daily Montanan.
The stabbing took place on the third floor of the school, which caters to around 1,600 students. Due to the incident, the school canceled classes and activities scheduled for Tuesday night and Wednesday, despite no ongoing threat, as students are set to begin their finals on Thursday.
Events such as the scheduled girls and boys wrestling meet and an orchestra concert were called off. As the investigation continues, crisis counselors are set to assist students and staff upon their return on Thursday.
Billings Public Schools assured that all other schools and activities would continue as planned.

We are writing to provide an update regarding an incident that occurred at Senior High School this afternoon, January 13th. At approximately 4:23 PM, after regular school hours, a teacher was attacked and sustained stab wounds.
School staff immediately notified 911 and placed the building into a lockdown. We are relieved to report that the teacher is currently in stable condition and receiving medical care. Law enforcement has confirmed that all parties involved have been accounted for and there is no ongoing threat to the public. As this is an active criminal investigation, the District is working closely with the Billings Police Department.
All classes and extracurricular activities at Senior High School are canceled for Wednesday, January 14th. When students and staff return to the building on Thursday, we will have a crisis support team and counselors available all day to help our school community process this news. Out of respect for the privacy of our staff member and the integrity of the police investigation, we are unable to share further details at this time.
