France is taking a significant step toward modernizing its military capabilities by developing an advanced “kill web” system. This initiative aims to integrate sensors and weapons on the battlefield, facilitating quicker decision-making and engagement, inspired by Ukraine’s Delta system.
The “kill web” is set to initially revolve around the French Atlas artillery-weapon system, produced by Thales. General Olivier Coquet, head of the French Army’s technical section STAT, announced at the Eurosatory defense show that this system will eventually support dynamic targeting as part of the expansive Arcadia AI-powered battlefield command infrastructure.
“Just like the Ukrainians are doing we want to set up a kill web as quickly as possible,” Coquet stated. “In other words, shorten the sensor-to-effector loops so we can fire faster and make decisions faster. That’s already underway.”
Ukraine’s Delta system serves as a model for this development. It leverages a network of drones, satellites, artillery, and command systems, allowing forces to target enemies through various channels, rather than a singular, linear process. France is exploring similar technological advancements through its Scorpion program, which focuses on digitally connecting armored vehicles.
Arcadia, as explained by Coquet, integrates multiple programs, including the kill web, to enhance interoperability among allied command systems. General Philippe de Montenon, commander of the French land forces and operations, emphasized the urgency of this project, stating, “This is a major challenge we need to resolve in the very short term, ensuring that what we call our combat clouds can communicate with one another.”
