Arizona’s infrastructure challenges are highlighted in a recent evaluation by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), emphasizing the urgency of addressing critical areas to support the state’s growth and environmental challenges.
The ASCE’s report provides a comprehensive overview of Arizona’s infrastructure across 11 categories, assigning the state an overall grade of C, consistent with its previous assessment in 2020.
Particularly, the report identifies significant concerns in transportation, drinking and wastewater, and public service systems. While Arizona’s bridges received a commendable B+ rating, the state’s roads are in dire need of improvement, receiving a D+.
Factors such as population growth, increasing temperatures, frequent wildfires, and persistent drought have compounded the state’s infrastructure challenges. These are further exacerbated by funding shortfalls at the state level.
To bridge these gaps, the report’s authors recommend not only securing additional funding but also focusing on the maintenance and modernization of existing infrastructure.
