Massive Development Project Approved in Mesa Set to Transform Local Economy
An ambitious new project, approved by the Mesa City Council, is poised to reshape the local landscape with a staggering $3 billion investment. The Legacy Park and Gateway Crossing development aims to generate over 13,500 jobs and is positioned just east of the bustling Mesa Gateway Airport.
Mesa City Manager Scott Butler, in a conversation with KJZZ, highlighted the region’s significant residential expansion over the past decade. To align with this growth, city officials have greenlit what is set to become Mesa’s largest mixed-use development, spotlighting a luxurious 600-room resort hotel.
Butler remarked, “Really the quality of which you can only find in Scottsdale and maybe along the Camelback Corridor in Phoenix and so that’s something that’s desperately needed for the tourism sector here in Mesa and the Southeast Valley.” The resort, combined with two additional mid-tier hotels, is expected to cater to the influx of millions visiting the Arizona Athletic Grounds annually.
This extensive development will also feature office spaces and premium retail outlets, designed to provide local residents with more choices within their community. Butler emphasized the importance of this project, noting, “We hear so often from our residents that they have to drive outside the community. For the city, it hurts us in the sense that we lose all of that sales tax that doesn’t stay in our communities and help support our public safety and our parks and our other amenities.”
The first phase of the project is anticipated to commence in 2028.
