US Forces Execute Lethal Strike Against Venezuelan Drug Traffickers
In a bold maritime operation, U.S. forces launched a strike against narcotics traffickers linked to Venezuela, resulting in the deaths of 11 alleged members of the Tren de Aragua gang. The action took place in international waters as part of a targeted operation under President Donald Trump’s directive.
President Trump conveyed the operation’s details on his Truth Social account, stating, “Earlier this morning, on my orders, U.S. Military Forces conducted a kinetic strike against positively identified Tren de Aragua Narcoterrorists in the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility.” He emphasized the gang’s designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and its affiliations with Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
The strike was reported to have occurred while the gang members were transporting illicit drugs to the United States. Trump warned, “Please let this serve as notice to anybody even thinking about bringing drugs into the United States of America.” A night vision video accompanied his message, showing a vessel exploding at sea.
During a previous press conference, Trump credited the military’s leadership and highlighted the operation as part of a larger anti-narcotics campaign, citing significant drug influxes from Venezuela. The U.S. naval presence in the southern Caribbean has intensified, with eight warships, including three amphibious assault ships and a nuclear-powered submarine, deployed to combat cartel activities.
The naval force includes approximately 4,500 sailors and Marines, featuring an expeditionary unit ready for rapid response. Key vessels such as the San Antonio, Iwo Jima, and Fort Lauderdale are supported by three Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, armed with Tomahawk missiles and other advanced weaponry, capable of both maritime interdiction and potential land operations.
This military buildup aligns with the Trump administration’s strategy to isolate Venezuela’s government by designating groups like Tren de Aragua as terrorist organizations. This designation allows for freezing assets and targeting leadership. Additionally, Venezuela’s Cartel of the Suns, allegedly involving Maduro, is labeled a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” entity, with Maduro facing conspiracy charges and a $50 million bounty on his capture.
In response, Maduro dismissed these allegations as a pretext for regime change and pledged to mobilize militias, escalating tensions and raising the possibility of direct conflict. The strike represents a significant escalation in the U.S. stance against Venezuelan criminal networks.
Further details on the strike’s timing and location were not disclosed. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed via his X account the successful execution of the operation against a drug vessel departing from Venezuela, operated by a designated narco-terrorist group.
