Celebrate Christmas Marine Corps Style with Parades and Festivities

The festive spirit is alive and well at Marine Corps bases worldwide, where holiday traditions blend seamlessly with military precision. Amidst the palm trees and ocean breezes, these bases transform into holiday wonderlands with events ranging from parades to light displays, providing joy and entertainment for military families and local communities alike.

Both on and off the base, there are numerous activities to partake in, organized by the Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) and local communities. Here’s a look at the seasonal offerings at six Marine Corps installations around the globe.

Marine Corps Base Quantico

At Quantico, the holiday season is celebrated with a variety of events, from concerts at the Marine Corps Museum to the annual community Christmas party. These events cater to both families and single Marines looking to enjoy the festivities.

  • MCB Quantico Holiday Festival & Tree Lighting on December 4, from 4–8 p.m. at the MCX Parking Lot, featuring ice skating, Santa, and ornament decorating.
  • Quantico Marine Band Evening Holiday Concert on December 11 at 7 p.m., held at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.
  • Town of Quantico’s Community Christmas Party on December 6, from 12–2 p.m. at the Lillian Carden Community Center, free and open to the public.
  • Holiday Walk of Lights in Prince William County Parks, available on select dates from December 4-28, including a sensory night on December 9.

Camp Lejeune / Jacksonville Area

Camp Lejeune and the Jacksonville area kick off their festive season with tree lightings and Winterfest, perfect for a family outing to the park.

Camp Pendleton / Oceanside

Camp Pendleton offers free Christmas trees and Santa visits, while nearby Oceanside hosts harbor lights and festive markets.

  • Winter Fest Express on December 6, from 8 a.m.–noon at the Pacific Views Event Center, featuring free trees and Santa visits.
  • Here Comes Santa Claus on multiple dates at Mainside Marine Mart and other PX locations.
  • Oceanside Harbor’s Parade of Lights on December 13 in the evening, showcasing decorated boats.
  • Christmas Market at Carruth Cellars on December 14 at The Hangar 76, featuring vendors and music.

MCAGCC Twentynine Palms

Following the recent big tree lighting and Holiday Festival, Twentynine Palms will host a Christmas Stroll in the desert sun later this month.

Marine Corps Base Hawaii (Kaneohe/Kailua)

On the Windward side, enjoy local parades and jogs, while the Honolulu City Lights are just a short drive away for those seeking city festivities.

Okinawa

Okinawa hosts multiple tree lightings this week, with American Village illuminations setting the standard for off-base holiday lights.
