Michigan Senate Welcomes Senator Chedrick Greene to Office
The Michigan Senate recently welcomed its newest member, Senator Chedrick Greene (D-Saginaw), who was sworn in after winning a special election earlier this month to complete the term. Representing the 35th Michigan Senate District, which includes parts of Saginaw, Midland, and Bay counties, Greene expressed his commitment to assisting with state budget negotiations and enhancing affordability for his constituents.
During a press conference following the swearing-in ceremony, Greene emphasized the importance of supporting the working middle class and offsetting federal policies that might impact their financial well-being. His primary focus is on implementing measures that benefit the residents of his district and address their immediate needs.
Despite early predictions of a tight race, Greene secured a victory with over a 20% margin. When questioned about his stance on endorsing Democratic priorities or advocating for more moderate policies, Greene underscored the significance of listening to his constituents. He emphasized the value of garnering feedback from voters to shape his actions and policies while serving in office.
The 35th Senate District had been vacant for nearly a year and a half before Greene’s appointment, following the departure of former holder U.S. Representative Kristen McDonald-Rivet (D, MI-8) to Congress. The special election result has drawn attention from analysts, with some interpreting it as a reflection of President Donald Trump’s popularity, while others attribute it to significant campaign spending in a low-turnout election.
