Marvel Studios Unveils New Black Panther Amidst Exciting Announcements at Comic-Con
Amidst the buzz and glamour of San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios made a series of announcements that have fans talking. The most thrilling news came from Hall H, where Marvel unveiled their new Black Panther.
Kevin Feige, the leading force behind Marvel Studios, presented a host of updates, including a fresh trailer for the much-anticipated film Avengers: Doomsday. Speculations about Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool joining the universe were teased, and Ryan Gosling was announced to take over as Ghost Rider from Nicolas Cage.
However, the most significant revelation came from director Ryan Coogler, accompanied by Winston Duke and Letitia Wright. The trio announced the release date for Black Panther III as December 15, 2028, and introduced David Jonsson as the new Black Panther.
Jonsson, known for his roles in Alien: Romulus, The Long Walk, and HBO’s Industry, will portray a grown version of Toussaint, also known as T’Challa II. He was first introduced in the post-credit scene of Wakanda Forever.
The inclusion of Jonsson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is seen as a much-needed boost. Alongside him, Denzel Washington is also set to appear in Black Panther III.
Ryan Coogler’s Discovery of the New Black Panther
Kevin Feige shared insights into Jonsson’s casting journey, revealing that Ryan Coogler identified Jonsson as the right fit months ago. He expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “he found his guy.”
“A month and a half or so before that process, he called me and said, ‘I found him. ‘ I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He goes, ‘I found him. He’s this guy, David Jonsson.’ He mentioned his movies. I had seen some of them. I watched more. He goes, ‘I’m going to meet him.’ He had a secret meeting with him under cloak of darkness in a hotel somewhere, and called me afterwards and said, ‘He’s the guy, he’s the guy, I felt it. I felt it in my soul. He’s a good man, and he is the next Black Panther.’ And I got chills, and I got a little welled-up and said, ‘Let’s do it’. So we’ve been sitting on this secret for a good five or six months.”
While Jonsson’s casting excited many, some fans expressed disappointment over Shuri passing the mantle and the absence of Damson Idris, who many hoped would take on the role. The focus on T’Challa’s son instead of resurrecting the king of Wakanda also sparked debate.
