Flagstaff is set to become home to a new federal courthouse, a development that will significantly reduce travel for northern Arizona residents who need to attend federal court sessions. Currently, many have to make the lengthy journey to the Sandra Day O’Connor U.S. Courthouse in Phoenix.
The upcoming courthouse, located off the historic Route 66, will be a modern, three-story building featuring a steel frame and stone façade. It will house two courtrooms, underground parking designated for judges and U.S. Marshals, and a secure intake bay for prisoners. Importantly, the design ensures distinct pathways for judges, defendants, and the public, enhancing security and confidentiality.
Security will be a priority at the new facility, which will have a level three security rating. This includes perimeter fencing and physical barriers, with the U.S. Marshals service responsible for the overall security of the premises.
The Flagstaff courthouse is anticipated to be operational by early 2027.
