TSMC Expands Footprint in Phoenix with Major Land Acquisition
In a move that signals significant growth, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) has acquired 900 acres of Arizona State Trust Land. This purchase, finalized at an auction with a nearly $200 million bid, sets the stage for TSMC to expand its site located near Loop 303 and Interstate 17 in north Phoenix.
The acquired land is part of the ambitious NorthPark project, which developers have outlined to include not only industrial expansions but also hiking trails and residential units. The city of Phoenix gave the green light to this development last month, effectively doubling TSMC’s operational area and paving the way for additional facilities.
While the expansion has been officially approved, it was met with some resistance from local residents during a council meeting held last month. Concerns were raised regarding the desire to maintain the campus north of Loop 303.
Despite the opposition, the expansion is projected to have a positive economic impact. Councilwoman Ann O’Brien emphasized the potential for job creation, stating that the development will enable TSMC to “generate thousands of jobs.” Additionally, funds from the land sale will benefit Arizona’s public school system, providing further community advantages.
