Waymo Robotaxis No Longer Available on Uber in Phoenix
In a recent development, Uber users in Phoenix will no longer have the option to book Waymo’s autonomous vehicles through the app. This change marks the end of the collaboration between the autonomous vehicle company and the ride-hailing service in this specific location.
The partnership between Uber and Waymo initially began in 2023, aiming to integrate autonomous driving technology with traditional ride-sharing services. According to a Waymo spokesperson, the initiative was “a productive pilot that paved the way for future expansions and partnerships across the globe.”
This decision follows Waymo’s earlier suspension of freeway trips in Phoenix and other cities back in May. The suspension was part of an effort to enhance the performance of its vehicles, particularly in areas with construction and potential flood hazards. Despite the changes in Phoenix, Waymo’s collaboration with Uber continues in other cities, including Austin and Atlanta.
