Scottsdale’s New Parking Structure Faces Resident Backlash and Debate

Scottsdale’s plan to construct a new parking facility in Old Town has sparked a heated debate among local residents. The city’s recent steps to advance the project have been a source of tension within the community.

During a public meeting, officials outlined the design and implementation of the proposed parking structure.

Funding for this $18 million initiative was secured through a bond approved by voters in 2019, paving the way for the development of the two-story garage.

Critics of the project have raised concerns about its proposed location at First Street and Brown Avenue, arguing it may disrupt the area’s visual appeal and impact the local farmers market.

Scottsdale business owner Crystal Caroll expressed her disapproval, stating, “That space is about the worst space you can put it in just because of what it does to our old town area.”

On the other hand, supporters advocate for the project’s necessity, emphasizing the city’s demand for increased parking facilities.
