Fighter Pilot Gunderson Creates Healthier Nicotine Alternative Pouches

From Fighter Pilot to Entrepreneur: A New Approach to Combat Nicotine Addiction

Josh Gunderson, a fighter pilot familiar with high-stress environments, found himself relying on tobacco for its nicotine boost. Realizing the health risks, he transitioned to nicotine pouches. However, the quest for a healthier alternative led him to establish GTG Energy, a nootropic pouch designed as a plant-based substitute for nicotine.

GTG Energy is proudly manufactured in California, a decision driven by Gunderson’s commitment to quality. “I really wanted a good, quality product,” Gunderson shared with Military.com. He emphasized the importance of domestic production over cost-saving overseas manufacturing, ensuring a product that resonates with current tobacco and nicotine users.

While GTG Energy aims to assist anyone seeking to quit nicotine, Gunderson specifically targets high-stress professions like military personnel, veterans, first responders, and healthcare workers. “We’re absolutely going to help out the veteran and military communities as much as possible,” Gunderson stated.

A Culture of Nicotine Use

Throughout Gunderson’s life, whether it was during his baseball days or flying jets in the Air Force, nicotine was a constant presence. As he researched the negative health impacts of nicotine, he found it could disrupt hormones and reduce testosterone levels, affecting recovery and fertility.

“All these things are negatively impacting men,” Gunderson noted, highlighting the need for a healthier alternative not only for himself but also for those he served alongside.

Despite the vast consumer base for nicotine pouches from brands like Zyn and Velo, Gunderson believes GTG Energy can appeal to a broader audience, including athletes and students. He emphasizes the lower caffeine content in GTG Energy compared to other alternatives, claiming it provides benefits without the crash associated with high caffeine levels.

The Birth of a Healthier Alternative

Gunderson’s journey to create GTG Energy began five years ago, driven by the potential of functional mushrooms as a healthy substitute for nicotine. His wife was initially unaware of the widespread use of nicotine until she spoke with friends, realizing the market potential.

Looking forward, Gunderson hopes to extend GTG Energy’s reach to high performers like entrepreneurs and college students, aiming to replace nicotine with brain-healthy ingredients.

“My grand vision in the next 5-10 years is that we dramatically impact the tobacco and nicotine market,” Gunderson expressed, envisioning a shift towards healthier, performance-enhancing products.

An Inspiring Journey in the Air Force

Gunderson’s passion for flying began early, inspired by his family’s Cuban heritage and his own dream of becoming a fighter pilot. Supported by his mother, he attended the Air Force Academy, eventually flying F-15s and F-22 Raptors across the globe.

As the commanding pilot for the F-22 Demo Team, Gunderson led air shows worldwide, promoting the Air Force and inspiring the public. “I also enjoyed being an ambassador for America,” he said, cherishing the opportunity to represent diverse backgrounds on a global stage.
