Genessee County Sheriff Chris Swanson Running for Governor

Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson Submits Nominating Petitions for Governor Race

Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson is making waves in the Michigan gubernatorial race as he submitted over 26,000 nominating petition signatures to secure a spot on the Democratic primary ballot. Despite trailing behind his primary opponent, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Swanson remains optimistic and determined to connect with voters across the state.

Swanson, speaking outside the state Bureau of Elections, emphasized that the race would not be a “coronation” and highlighted the importance of addressing the divisions within the state and country. He believes that voters are seeking a candidate who can deliver actions rather than just talking points, positioning himself as a different choice from the establishment candidates.

Throughout his campaign, Swanson has garnered significant endorsements, including support from the electricians’ union, IBEW, and various local union chapters. He emphasized his strong ties to the working class and organized labor, citing his years of relationship-building efforts, particularly at the Black Lake UAW training center in northern Michigan.

While the influential UAW has not yet endorsed a candidate in the race, Swanson expressed confidence in his connections within the labor community, underscoring his commitment to representing their interests. The Bureau of Elections will now review Swanson and Benson’s signatures to ensure compliance with ballot requirements by early summer.
