In response to a series of violent events on Sun Tran buses, Tucson is stepping up security by deploying additional police officers and outreach officials at bus stops from August 5 to 14.
Officials from various city departments, guided by Assistant City Manager Liz Morales, will be present at approximately 60 bus stops located in the Tucson Unified, Amphitheater, Sunnyside, and Flowing Wells school districts. This initiative marks Tucson’s inaugural effort in implementing such a program.
“The program was requested by Mayor Regina Romero and Vice Mayor Lane Santa Cruz to ensure students and families receive clear information about transit safety resources, expected respectful behavior, and how to report safety concerns,” Morales explained.
